Gorge walk

August 27, 2007

Remember to get your permissions for this to me asap. I need to get them photocopied and sent to your head teachers so turning up with them on the day is not an option!! Lynsay, thanks for yours which has arrived.

The 2 outdoor learning staff involved will be Mike who was at the parents’ night and Dave who is young and has a pony tail. Each of them will have an outdoor learning minibus and will meet you in the school bus bay at 4pm. I will meet you at the gorge.

Wear clothes that won’t matter if they get muddy. Mike will supply wetgear and helmets etc

Bring some food as we won’t get you back to school until about 8. A mobile phone would be handy so you can let parents know when to get picked up or you can use mine!

Thinks that’s all you need to know!

mobile phones and blog

August 27, 2007

Thanks Melissa for your comments re contacting home by email. In theory that is possible but if 10 of you are waiting to use my laptop  to send emails it could take at least half an hour which may not be possible. I will post an entry on this blog as soon as I can on Sunday evening to say we have arrived safely. All of this is dependent on getting Internet access at the Turmvilla, although I ‘m sure if I can’t get laptop to work I can use the office computer.

There is really no need for you to bring mobile phones at all. If you get a lot of text messages from mates while away you will pay for them (check with your network).

I will give all of you an emergency help card with text in German saying you are lost and my phone number and the Turmvilla’s number for when we are in Dresden.

Update from parents’ night

August 22, 2007

It was good to see you last night and to be sure everyone knows what was decided I will summarise:

Lunch on Sunday can be brought with you or you can buy a snack on arrival at Schoenefeld Airport.

Pocket money – £80 – £100. All food other than on Sunday’s journey is covered and all entrances to pool/museum is included. You only need money to buy supplementary snacks and any presents/souvenirs. Bring euros as there will be no opportunity to change sterling or cash traveller’s cheques. I would be prepared to store 1 named envelope of money each in a safe at the accommodation to be given out on Thursday for trip to Dresden. I will not be dishing out money on a daily basis.

Luggage as per the notes but remember a swimming towel. I am enquiring about insurance cover for musical instruments which woud have to travel in the hold.

Haggis – could everyone bring 1 or 2 tins of Grant’s haggis – I got mine at Morrisons in Troon @ .59 a can. And bring it in your suitcase.

Helmets – if you have a cycle helmet please bring it otherwise we can supply. Tell me on the 6th at Mauchline Gorge or post here.

Think that’s all!

Derek and Lynsay please return the permission slip for Mauchline Gorge asap, plus the swimming permission, 1 copy of the rules. Aimee, Mr Wilson has your copy of the photo permission.

Parents’ meeting

August 20, 2007

Hope you are remembering the parents’ night tomorrow at Mauchline Community Centre at 7 pm .

See you all (except Derek) then!

Stuff to take to Saxony

August 15, 2007

Hope your first day back at school was not too painful!

I mentioned the possibility of taking musical intruments which we are looking into.

Annette has also asked if we could bring some haggis!!!!! She must have enjoyed our mini Burns supper at the Dophin House. I don’t think you can eat haggis by itself. You can’t buy turnips in Germany. I know, I have tried and ended up buying celeriac. (Look out for it in the supermarket – it does look like a turnip but it is celery flavoured!!) What do you think. Has anyone tried to take haggis with them abroad before?

We should also think of taking some presents for our new friends and for the school visit. Some Scottish sweets or shortbread or postcards might be suitable. We can talk about that on Tuesday night at the parents’ meeting.
