Summer Camp 2008
May 29, 2008East Ayrshire has a long standing link with the school area of Bautzen in Saxony in the eastern part of Germany near the Polish and Czech borders.
This year it is our turn to host the Saxony summer camp for students aged 14 – 17. It will take place towards the end of the school holidays from Monday 11th August (afternoon) to Sunday 17th August (after breakfast).
7 girls and 3 boys aged 16-17 and 3 female teachers from Saxony will be coming to join 10 of our pupils and teachers to live and join in activities at an outdoor centre, the Dolphin House in the grounds of Culzean Castle in a stunning location right on the shore.
It will be staffed by East Ayrshire teachers of German, East Ayrshire outdoor learning staff, and Dolphin House outdoor learning staff. The programme will include outdoor activities such as canoeing, cycling, orienteering plus media activities eg filming and podcasting. Of course we will take our visitors for some tourist activities too.
Last year 10 of our pupils from S4 – 6 went to Bad Muskau in Saxony. The younger pupils who are still at school are eligible to join this trip as well. 3 pupils they met there will be coming over, namely Robert, Sandra and Vera along with Frau Annette Emmrich.
We are looking for new participants who are willing to participate in outdoor activities plus would be sociable and mix with the other students and try out their German. There may be a possibility that you can go on a return trip to Saxony next summer if we are able to get funding for such a trip.
The cost to Scottish pupils would be £100 inclusive of full board, transport, equipment, tuition, and any entrance fees which is less than half of the actual cost.
